Eczema

Atopic dermatitis (eczema) is a chronic inflammatory condition of the skin of unknown etiology, with a hereditary predisposition in 70% of cases. It affects 5-15% of school-age children and 2-10% of adults. People with atopic dermatitis are more likely to suffer from food allergies, asthma, rhinitis, urticaria, and are more susceptible to staph infections and viruses. Causes irritation, scaling and severe itching of the skin. On dark skin it may be more purple than red or just a darker skin color.

When presented on the hands, it may also have small blisters along the sides of the fingers or on the palms. The hands may ache and dry out with openings and cracks in the palms or around the fingers.
