Autoimmune Diseases

Rheumatic or autoimmune diseases are diseases that involve the connective tissue of the body. They are characterized as autoimmune because they are due to a disorder of the immune system in which the immune system attacks healthy organs of the body itself. The result is inflammation and dysfunction of the target organ. Some of the characteristic autoimmune diseases, which also concern dermatology, are Lupus Erythematosus, Psoriatic Arthritis and Scleroderma.

Characteristic Autoimmune Diseases

Lupus Erythematosus

Includes: 3 forms and affects the skin, hair, but also organs of internal pathology. Characteristic of this disease is the photosensitivity it presents. The diagnosis is made after the clinical suspicion by taking a skin tissue for histopathological examination and simultaneous laboratory test.

Scleroderma

Affects: the elastic fibers of the skin and creates inelasticity. The results become visible in areas of the body localized or diffuse that show limited mobility. However, scleroderma can also affect the organs of internal pathology, but usually in its diffuse and persistent forms. In this case, too, the treatment should be done in collaboration with the rheumatologist.

Psoriatic arthritis

Constitutes: arthritis that occurs in people suffering from psoriasis. This arthritis may precede psoriasis. In these cases the treatment is done by receiving systematic treatment and always in collaboration with the rheumatologist.
